15 tips to help you organize items in your home and avoid clutter

With summer coming to an end and fall starting, it’s time to start thinking about fall cleaning and reorganizing your home. Reorganizing your home can be a daunting but necessary task in order to ensure that everything is neat and in its place. Here are some tips to eliminate the stress of reorganizing your home.

Make a list
Making a plan of what you need to do to keep you on task and in turn make the process go by quicker.

Store your shoes
Keep shoes in a shoe rack or cubby to keep your footwear organized and prevent tracking in dirt and mud.

Separate seasonal clothes
Store away clothes during the off season to allow more room in your closet.

Organize your counter top
Get plastic containers to store your accessories such as keys and phones. This will not only prevent clutter on your counter top, but will also keep you from losing any of these important items.

Don’t need it, pitch it
Start throwing out things that you don’t use and you will find that you had more space than you thought you did. Throwing away unwanted items can free up a lot of space which will in turn allow you to store and organize more items.

Organize Medicine Cabinet
Get rid of old and expired medications to allow more room. You can also sort your medicines to prevent clutter and make it easier to find what medicines you need when you need it.

Gather Wires
Use specialized cable management boxes to prevent your wires from becoming tangled under your desk or entertainment center for computers and electronics.

Install a magnet in the medicine Cabinet
This will ensure that magnetic items such as tweezers and eye brow trimmers remain in place.

Find a home for everything
To organize your home and keep you from frantically looking for your stuff, go through and find a home for everything that is in your house.

Create drop zones for your mail
Put mail boxes for incoming and outgoing mail near the front door. You can also make a perch for your keys.

Hang accessories on racks
This will ensure that ties, scarfs and belts will be organized and out of the way and make them easier to find.

File it, or trash it
File all documentation in its own clearly labeled folder. Shred unneeded documents that contain important information.

Organize toiletries
If you don’t have enough room for them, store them in a plastic container or caddie for more room.

Put magazines in a magazine rack
As you add new magazines, recycle or give away the older ones to keep the magazine rack from overflowing.

Place hooks on doors
To keep the closet from getting cluttered, place hooks to hang coats, hats, handbags and totes.
