Troy soccer, baseball and Silex sports report

The Troy Buchanan High Lady Trojans split two recent games in high school soccer.

On May 7 after a scoreless first half, Mariah Vollmer and Kylie Thwing netted goals, giving Troy a 2-0 win over Francis Howell. Vollmer and Jamie Gilley had assists. Tiffany Hazelwonder got the shutout in the win.

On May 2, they lost 1-0 to Francis Howell Central Hazelwonder made six saves in the loss.

On April 29, they lost 4-1 to Francis Howell North. Mariah Vollmer scored Troy’s goal on an assist by Lexy Roberts. Tori Dittere and Hazelwonder split time in the nets.

On April 27, they defeated Pembrooke Hill with Stephanie Adelmann, Allie Heinz and Kylie Thwing scoring goals and Ditter getting the shutout. Also that day, they lost 2-1 to Hickman with Adelmann scoring the goal on an assist from Gilley.

In high school baseball, Fort Zumwalt South posted an 8-1 win over Troy. Troy had six hits by Collin Barton, Jake Crader, Devon Fuller, Curtis Meyers, Dan Rivera, and Alex Tiefenthaler. Rivera accounted for Troy’s lone run with a home run and Meyers had a double. Nic Tubbessing was charged with the loss.

On April 30, Wentzville Timberland posted two wins, 4-0 and 4-2. Barton, Tiefenthaler and Shane Ponder had hits in the loss. Tubbessing was again charged with the loss. In the 4-2 loss, Josh Lucas and Tubbessing had RBIs with Lucas, Fuller, Crader having two hits each. Zach Weston was charged with the loss.

The Silex Owls posted a 10-2 win over Wellsville-Middletown on May 1. They had 10 hits led by Josh Adams, Austin Fleming and Augie Martin getting two hits each. Wyatt Groshong drove in two runs batted in. Ryan Eisenbath was the winning pitcher. He pitched seven innings and threw a two-hitter.

Silex lost 6-3 to Community on May 6 with some untimely errors.

“Troy (Strunk) pitched a great game but errors lead them (Community) to scoring,” said Coach Chad Twellman.

Strunk, Eisenbath and Martin drove in runs in the game for Silex. Fleming and Levi Miller had doubles for the Owls.

Errors again were crucial in the outcome of a 9-8 loss to Bowling Green. Eisenbath drove in two runs on two hits. Huber and Martin had three hits apiece.

On May 7, Silex dropped a 10-5 decision to Union.Wyatt Groshong had a double and triple with two RBIs, Eisenbath also drove home two runs.
