The Winfield Warriors saw their season mark in soccer fall to 5-12 in a 5-1 loss to Warrenton on Oct. 3. \
“Although the first half saw us scoring first and only trailing by one, we were unable to produce a goal in the second,” said Coach Zach Johnson.
Andrew Sprengel scored and was assisted by Levi Staley.
Winfield recently played and lost to Orchard Farm. The final score was 4-3.
“We lost in the first period of overtime, said Johnson. “It was a great game and we played really well. Down 2-0 at half time we were able to end the second half tied 3-3.”
Sprengel scored twice and Levi Staley scored once. Robert Roggeman and Levi Staley provided assists.
“Unfortunately, we gave up an early goal in overtime and lost,” he added.
On September 25, Winfield played North County Tech and won 5-3. Sprengel scored a hat trick, Roggeman got one, and John Pierce scored his first of the season.
“It was a good back and forth game for a while, but eventually we went up two goals and they couldn’t get back in the game,” said Johnson. That was our fifth win of the year.”
Defense is an area that is killing their chances.
“We have, at this point, 85 goals against, and that’s a stat that needs to change next year. We won’t be successful giving up that many goals,” he concluded.
