The Winfield Warriors posted their second straight win in football Sept. 1 with a 20-8 win over Confluence Academy. This was also their home opener after splitting games on the road.
“Our defense stepped up big during the game,” said Coach Keith McGlasson. “We were worried about Confluence’s speed and athleticism. The defense allowed under 200 yards of offense by their offense. Our offense did what they had to do to win. Our passing game was taken away so we had to lean on our ground game. Our offensive line stepped up big and did a great job against a tough, fast defense.”
For Winfield, Collin Sutton had 163 yards on the ground with two TDs. He also had another passing TD to Carter Bauer who made a great ‘toe drag’ catch in the end zone. It was a great team effort. We enter the GAC schedule with some confidence.” Sutton carried the ball 29 times Baur caught three passes for 38 yards. Defensively, Kiyah Christenson was in on 16 tackles with Auer in on seven. Chase Rankin, Spencer Keiser, and Jake Colbert recovered fumbles.
