Winfield High School has yet another thing to be proud about as marching season begins to pick up pace. The drum line went to competition and placed first out of eight different drum lines in the 5A division. The Mozingo Drum Line Festival was held on September 8 where the dedicated drum line performed. Winfield played pieces of their Fall marching music and were instructed by Kevin Lowe, Asst. Band Director/Percussion Director, with help by Greg Guthrie, drum line captain. The drum line has been practicing for this event since late May when they first started to read over the music.
“It’s a good experience, and was fun to compete in,” said Guthrie. “I hope to be able to come back next year and help out.”
This was the first drum line competition that Winfield has ever competed in and they plan to make it an annual event. An estimated total of 30 bands participate in the competition.
All drum lines were judged by their clarity, technique, music, balance and tone.
