Troy and Winfield had final tune-ups prior to the start of their high school district tournaments.

The Lady Warriors dropped a close 3-2 decision to Elsberry. The Lady Indians took advantage of errors in the third inning when they plated all three. Winfield continued to cut into their lead with Sarah Entwistle (3b)  and Maria Tippit (2b) driving in runs. Those errors proved the difference.

On Sept. 28, Winfield defeated Francis Howell 5-2 scoring four runs in the third inning. Makenzie Hoelting was the winning pitcher. She allowed seven hits and struck out two. Chelsey Bowman and Libby Marko each drove in two runs in the win. Peyton Ward had a triple and Cailynn Hoelting stroked a double.

On the day before (Oct.1),  it was a 14-1 win over St. Dominic. Morgan Oliver had one of those nights, going 4/4, double, home runs and drove in nine runs. Lawson, Reisinger and Schulte also had run producing hits. Wiegand was the winner, allowing two hits and striking out eight hitters.

On Sept. 28, Columbia Hickman squeezed out a 5-4 win. For Troy, Martin had two RBIs and Oliver had one. Martin had a double. Stenborg was charged with the loss. She allowed seven hits but only three earned runs. Troy, as a team, committed four errors.

On Sept. 27, Fort Zumwalt South tagged a 7-5 loss on Troy. Oliver had two RBIs and a home run. Lawson and Murphy also plated one run each. Kiersten Otte was charged with the loss.

In their opening round games Thursday, Troy Buchanan advanced to the district final with a 10-0 win  over Fort Zumwalt North.  Rachel Sullivan had four hits in the game and drove in three runs. Nicole Schulte had RBIs.

Troy was to play Timberland Friday while Winfield was set to meet Warrenton in the 3A district at Wright City.

Winfield Coach Zack Sheets heads back to the dugout after a conference on the mound with his Lady Warriors. Three errors were the key as the Lady Warriors lost 3-2 to Elsberry last week.
