Troy Buchanan wins first game at Visitation tournament

After suffering their first loss of the season to a top-notch private Illinois school, the Troy Buchanan girls’ basketball team got back on the winning trace in the first round of the 50th annual Visitation Christmas tournament Saturday.

Seeded third in the 16team tournament, the Trojans (6-1) pounded Tolton 63-42 to advance to a second round game against Eureka scheduled for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The winner of that game advances to the championship semifinal scheduled for 8 p.m. on Friday, with the championship game scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, preceded by the third (5 p.m.), fifth (3 p.m.), seventh place (1:30 p.m.) and consolation championship games (noon).

Troy started the season with six consecutive wins, but lost 48-36 Wednesday, Dec. 18 on the road to Quincy Notre Dame (11-0).

After the Visitation tournament, Troy returns home Dec. 3 for a game against Fort Zumwalt East starting at 7 p.m. followed by a 5:30 p.m. game against Francis Howell Central on Jan. 10.
