Vernon C. Herrington

 Vernon C. Herrington, 94, of St. Peters, Missouri, and formerly of Troy, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home March 1st, 2025.
 Born on October 23, 1930, in St. Louis Missouri, Vernon was the son of Thomas Earl and Florence E. (Rosenbeck) Herrington. He grew up alongside his two siblings, Elmer and Grace. From a young age, he displayed a strong work ethic, beginning his first job at a neighborhood food market at just 13 years old, where he worked until graduating high school. At 17, Vernon enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He later served in the Army, spending time in Korea. After that experience, he realized the Navy had been a better fit, so he asked to re-enlist and they gladly welcomed him back.
 In 1965, while working as a mailman in St. Louis, Vernon met the love of his life, Marie. The two married on October 8, 1966, in St. Louis and built a life together. Their daughter Wendy was born on Friday, February 13, 1970, joining her siblings, Lyle and Norma. Vernon retired from the Navy in 1986 and from the Post Office in 1989.
 To his family, Vernon was more than just a husband, father, and grandfather he was the heart of their world. They lovingly describe him as “the most special man ever,” believing there will never be another who matches his kindness, strength, and unwavering love.
 Vernon is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Marie Herrington; his loving children, Lyle (Laura) Herrington of St. Charles, Norma (Keith) Cooper of Bismarck, and Wendy (Brian) Tentschert of O’Fallon; his cherished grandchildren, Sherry (Adam), Scott (Bridget), Heather (Rob), Elizabeth (Ben), Taylor (Nikki), Sarah (Kaleb), and Jackie; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his niece, Barb Thiel, nephew, Craig Herrington, and many other relatives and dear friends.
 He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Elmer Herrington, and his sister, Grace Winters.
 A visitation was held on Thursday, March 6, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at McCoy-Blossom Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1304 Boone St., Troy, MO 63379.
 Funeral service to followed at 7:00 p.m., also at the funeral home in Troy. Rev. Garry McCracken to officiate. Interment to took place on Friday, March 7, 2025 at 9:00 a.m., at Jefferson Barracks, National Cemetery.
