Three New Aldermen Elected in Troy

TROY – The Troy Board of Aldermen will look a whole lot different next time they meet following the election of three new board members Tuesday night.
Voters elected Terri Huffman, Mitchell Bryant and Dennis Detert to two-year terms in contested races, representing Wards One, Two and Three, respectively.
Coupled with the recent appointment of Quentin Laws to fill the remaining one year on David Norman’s term, two-thirds of the Troy board will have new representatives at the April meeting.
While Norman resigned in February, Kay Diekemper resigned in the fall of 2024, vacating the third ward seat she won in a 2023 election, unseating Detert, who had served several terms.
Detert easily won in his bid to return to the board, receiving 173 votes (41 percent) in a three-person race. Jodi Johnson finished second with 142 votes (34 percent), followed by Michael Quezada with 105 votes (25 percent).
Troy Mayor Ron Sconce twice nominated Quezada to fill the remainder of Diekemper’s term and twice the board voted no.
The only incumbent running, Steve Jones, lost in his re-election in Ward Two. Mitch Bryant received 164 votes, or 51.7 percent, compared to 148 for Jones.
And in Ward One, Huffman defeated Preston Gebhart in the closest race on the ballot, 221-212 (50.4-48.3 percent).
Huffman will take the seat vacated by Gary Leifert, who served one term on the board.
