American Legion Baseball Returns to Troy

TROY – For the first time in 15 years, a Troy American Legion Post 94 hosted a baseball game Tuesday night.

After scoring six runs in the first inning, the reborn Troy Legion team defeated Community R-6 11-1.

Kyle Eisenbath led Troy with three hits in three at-bats, including a single and a double in the six-run first inning, leading to a pair of runs.

Brayden Shafer also scored twice in the first and finished the game with two hits in three plate appearances.

Ayden Cox singled home a run in the bottom of the second and Carter and Brayden Shafer each drove home runs in the third to extend that lead to 9-1.

That was plenty of offense for Conner Kopff who pitched all five innings in the win, allowing only a first-inning run. He surrendered three hits and one walk while striking out seven in the win.

Other notable contributions for Troy included a pair of walks for Carter Westadt and a pair of steals from Mason Murray.

Troy finished the game with six walks on offense in just four innings while committing no errors in the field.

During pregame ceremonies commemorating the start of the season, Tom Rhoads, the State Director of Missouri American Legion Baseball, and Troy Legion Commander Mike Bath addressed the crowd. Troy superintendent Matt Frederickson threw out the first pitch.

The team is coached by Aaron Shafer and Chris Chaney.

Troy’s next game is June 2 at 6 p.m. against St. Clair at the Hawk Point Athletic Association field, which will serve as their home field the rest of the season.
