Funeral Services for Judith Ann “Judy” Shaffer of Elsberry, MO will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at the New Hope Baptist Church near Elsberry. Rev. Stephen McLane, church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery near Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be Brock Berryman, Brody Berryman, Brian Berryman, Allen Berryman, Terell Mathis and Billy Shaffer.
Mrs. Shaffer, 78, was born on September 13, 1946 in Foley, MO, the daughter of Charles and Hazel Irving Lilley. She passed away Sunday afternoon, July 6, 2025 at Aspire of New Florence in New Florence, MO. Judy was a 1964 graduate of Troy Buchanan High School in Troy, MO, attended Hannibal LaGrange College in Hannibal, MO for two years, and in 1968 earned a Bachelors Degree in Education from Northeast Missouri State College in Kirksville, MO. Judy was united in marriage on November 15, 1968 at New Hope Baptist Church to Raymond Lester “Tody” Shaffer. This union was blessed with two children, Randy and Lascena. Tody and Judy lived, worked and raised their family in the Elsberry community for the past 56 years.
Judy taught Kindergarten at the Clarence Cannon Elementary School in Elsberry for many years, retiring in 2006. She was a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association. Judy was a long-time and faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Charles “Doc” and Hazel Lilley; her parents-in-law, William “Les” and Rosemary Shaffer; and her sister-in-law, Norma Jean Lilley.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 56 years, Raymond “Tody” Shaffer of Elsberry; one son, Randy Shaffer and his wife, Kelli, of Elsberry; one daughter, Lascena Berryman of Troy, MO; ten grandchildren: Jenniffer, Ashley (Terell), Allen, Arianna (Benjamin), Brian (Camryn), Billy, Mardi (Darren), Brock (Karlee), Talia and Brody; twelve great-grandchildren and five great, great-grandchildren. She also leaves one brother, Gene Lilley of Troy; a former daughter-in-law, Lisa Vileck of St. Louis; and was loved by several cousins, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends and former students.
Visitation was held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry; and from 11:00 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at New Hope Baptist Church.
