WALTER JUNIOR SCHROEDER

Walter Junior Schroeder, age 83, of rural, southern Warren County, Missouri passed away peacefully at his home on August 27, 2025.
The third and youngest child of Walter Julius and Esther (Gemeinhardt) Schroeder, Walter attended Holstein Elementary School and Warren County R-III High School, Warrenton, graduating in 1960. The first in his family to attend college, he graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, with a Bachelor of Science in Education (1964), and a Master of Arts in Industrial Education (1965). He spent his teaching career as an Industrial Arts and Technology Instructor of Wood, Metal, and Drafting at Washington High School — from the Fall of 1965, until retiring in 2005 — after 40 years of fun! He was the Department Head from 1985 – 2005. In later years he primarily taught drafting. An early adopter of computer technology, he introduced his students to CAD in an era when students rarely encountered a computer in the classroom.
On June 18, 1966 Walter was united in marriage with Roxana Louise Wehmeyer, daughter of Victor and Louisa (Schnarre) Wehmeyer. The couple made their home in the Smith Creek community (Pinckney Township, Warren County, MO), where Walter had grown up. Walter and ‘Roxie’ had both attended Smith Creek UMC since childhood. (Walter’s confirmation was in 1952.) The couple’s two children (Miriam and Aaron) were born in the mid-1970s. The young family attended church at Smith Creek UMC, and later when the children were high school age, at College UMC in Warrenton, MO. Now in their golden years, Walter and Roxie have currently been worshipping at Smith Creek.
Living in his home community, Walter was able to farm alongside his father as well as his father-in-law, all made possible by the summer and evening availability of a teacher’s work schedule. Walter was equal parts farmer, teacher, and father / family man. He was a member of the Gore-Case Community Club and a lifetime member of the Warren County Historical Society where he served as the Chairman of the Building Committee for the Hummel Addition to the Museum. A lifelong Allis-Chalmer’s enthusiast, he and Roxie, together with his cousin and wife, attended annual “Gatherings of the Orange” nationwide for many years.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; brother Harvey and sister-in-law Jane (Jackson) Schroeder; brother-in-law Charles Green; and son-in-law Alex Beecham (Miriam’s husband). He is survived by his wife Roxana Schroeder; sister Maxie Belle (Schroeder) Green; daughter Miriam Schroeder; son Aaron and wife Shannon (Adams) Schroeder and grandsons Tyler and Braden Schroeder.
The visitation for Walter Schroeder was on September 4, 2025, at Smith Creek United Methodist Church, 19337 State Hwy U, Warrenton, MO from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM and the funeral service was at 12:00 PM also at the church. A burial followed at the Smith Creek Methodist Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to be given to the Smith Creek United Methodist Church – for the maintenance of the historic buildings or to the Gore Case Community Club – for the maintenance of the community center c/o Martin Funeral Home, 510 East Main, Warrenton, MO 63383.
