WENTZVILLE – The Troy-Buchanan Trojans rebounded from a lopsided loss to Hannibal with a lopsided road win over Timberland Friday night.
With the win, the Trojans improve to 3-1 on the season before a homecoming showdown with Francis Howell Central Friday night.
The Spartans dropped to 1-3 on the season after a 35-9 loss to Fort Zumwalt West last week.
Playing in Wentzville, the Trojans leaned on their two-headed running attack of Carter Dowell and Chris Wenger en route to a 54-19 win over Timberland.
The two running backs combined for just over 300 yards, with Dowell leading the way with 154 yards on 16 carries and a pair of touchdowns. Wenger added 149 yards on just eight carries with four scores of his own.
Wenger now has 11 touchdowns on just 29 carries for 360 yards for the season.
Troy’s other score came on a touchdown pass from Carter Shafer to Carson Twellman, who caught three passes for 71 yards. Shafer completed seven of 10 passes for the one score and 137 yards and one interception.
The Trojan defense also put up some gawdy numbers led by linebacker Talan Rowland leading the team with 13 tackles and a fumble recovery. Elijah Conley added 10 tackles, Wenger had nine and Donovan Miller recorded seven. Karsen Williams only had one tackle, but it counted for two points for a safety.
Kickoff for Friday night’s homecoming game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
