DENNIS PORTWOOD
Dennis Dale Portwood, 78 years old, passed away in the early hours of October 1st, 2025. He was born October 13th, 1946 near Troy, MO. The son of John R Portwood and Veva M LaRue Portwood. Dennis graduated in 1965 from Troy Buchanan High School in Troy, MO. He joined the US Army in February of 1966 and served in Fort Sill, OK until he was honorably discharged in February of 1968. Dennis married the love of his life, Gail Madelon Lauritzen on June 7th, 1968 at New Galilee Christian Church. They were married for 57 years and were blessed with two boys. Sean P. Portwood of Jacksonville Beach, FL and Chad E. Portwood of Winfield, MO. Dennis and Gail have three grandchildren: Brandi L Portwood (preceded in death), Tayler L Bronson, and Ty D Portwood. They have two great grandchildren: Leah Portwood and Fletcher Griffith.
Dennis worked for 41 illustrious years and retired in 2011 from MEMC Electronics formally known as Monsanto. He was a mechanical maintenance technician and specialized in plastic welding. Dennis was revered by co- workers and management alike. He loved to fish with his wife, a friend, family member or anyone else that would join him out on his boat. Dennis was always happy on the water. He also loved to collect his antique “rust”, drive his tractor, watch nature in his backyard and spend time with his puppy dog, Abe. All who knew him loved his gentle nature and willingness to help others. Dennis was a lifetime member of New Galilee Christian Church.
Remaining to cherish Dennis’s name are his spouse Gail M Portwood, two sons Sean P Portwood and Chad E Portwood, two grandchildren, Tayler L Bronson and Ty Dale Portwood, two great grandchildren Leah Portwood and Fletcher Griffith, one brother Larry D Portwood, one sister Margaret “Skipper” Keilty, a plethora of nieces and nephews and extended family from both sides.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Lawrence, Garvin, Carl and Harry, one sister Norma and his granddaughter Brandi.
Dennis did not want a memorial services or celebration of life and his wishes are being honored accordingly. Memorial donations may be made in his name to: New Galilee Christian Church Cemetery Fund 1769 State Hwy 47 Winfield, MO 63389.
