Perkins sentenced to 10 years on child abuse charge

TROY – A Winfield man will be returning to prison after he pleaded guilty last week to felony child abuse charges.

Kyle M. Perkins, 36, received a 10-year prison sentence after pleading guilty Wednesday to the Class B felony of abuse or neglect of a child – serious emotional or physical injury. He also pleaded guilty to a second felony assault charge, receiving a four-year sentence which will concurrently with the other charge.

According to court records, in May 2023, Perkins punched a crying 13-month old girl in the face, fracturing her nose and causing several lacerations over her face. He also broke both of her arms.

The child’s mother had left the baby with Perkins when she took her other children to school.

Lincoln County Prosecuting Attorney Mike Wood reported the victim in this case has fully recovered from her injuries.

This will be Perkins third stint in the Missouri Department of Corrections that started with a burglary conviction in 2009. He received probation twice in that case and after violating terms of that probation a second time, was sentenced in 2013 to serve the original seven year-term.

However, he would be released well short of that seven-year sentence and in May 2018, was charged with DWI-Physical Injury. In January 2020, he received a four-year prison sentence for that conviction.

Perkins also previous convictions for domestic assault, resisting arrest and theft.

He was also arrested in January of this year in Warren County for possession of drug paraphernalia he told arresting officers he used for methamphetamine.
