Trojans beat North Point 2-1; look to districts next

TROY – The Troy-Buchanan High School boys’ soccer team is heading into the postseason tournament on a bit of an upswing after winning a second consecutive game earlier this week.

After blanking Washington 4-0 on Senior Night Tuesday, Oct. 21, the Trojans (8-10-1) traveled to Wentzville two days later and defeated the North Point Grizzlies 2-1.

Jacob Fernandes and Owen Wright both found the back of the net in the first half to give Troy a 2-1 lead. Scoring second, Fernandes was credited with the game-winning goal.

Lucas Vollmer did the rest, blanking the Grizzlies (10-11) in the second half and finishing the game with six saves.

Felipe Fernandes and Justin Paluczak also provided assists for the Trojans.

The Trojans returned to Wentzville Wednesday night for their final regular season match of the year, losing a close match 4-3 to Timberland.

Ethan Estelle scored a pair of goals and Jacob Fernandes added the third score. Hayden Downs, Mason Sumner and Paluczak added assists.

Coincidentally, the Trojans and Timberland (10-12) will play again Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in the first round of the District 4 postseason tournament.

The Trojans are seeded fifth and Timberland is fourth. The game will be played on a neutral pitch at Fort Zumwalt West.

The winner of Saturday’s matchup will likely take on top-seed Ft. Zumwalt West (14-3-2) Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 4 p.m. The district championship game is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 8 at noon.
