Haynes three-peats as all-state runner

For a third consecutive season, Jocelyn Haynes claimed all-state honors with a Top 20 finish in the Missouri Class 5 State Cross Country Championships last week in Columbia.

After finishing 17th as a freshman and 18th last season with a slightly better time, Haynes finished again in 17th Friday out of 164 runners at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course with a time of 18 minutes and 39.6 seconds.

Bella Navaro-Sanchez, a sophomore from Liberty (Wentzville) won the state championship by a hair with a time of 18:08.3, one-tenth of a second ahead of freshman Lucinda Wright at 18:08.4.

While Haynes improved her finish in 2024, her time was slightly slower as she ran the course in 18:38.4 in 2023, a marked improvement over her time of 19:20.5 in her freshman season.

Haynes 17th place finish was the best and first Trojan medalist since 2013 when Jane Boessen finished 13th with a time of 19:09.41.

Joining Haynes at the state championship were a pair of boys’ runners as well, senior Evan Schleef and freshman Oliver Livingston.

They would finish similarly, coming in 140th and 142nd, respectively, with times of 17:29.8 and 17:34.1 out of 160 runners.
