A Night of 1,000 Stars: Winfield, Elsberry hosting
TROY – It s an annual affair — an evening that ushers in the wintery vibe and signals the season of be merry and shine bright. From Christmas lights to awaiting Santa making his way down Main Street on a firetruck, a Night of LOOO Stars is meant to be a holly jolly good time. ‘This event is a night for families to come together, drink hot chocolate, listen to music, visit Santa, and truly be able to make heartfelt memories in the heart of Troy. Downtown Troy is beautiful. We have amazing businesses and these events highlight all of them.’ said Rachel Dunard, President of the Troy Historic Business Group Inc, which sponsors the yearly event. The event is Saturday, Dec. 7 at Downtown Main Street in Troy, from 5-8 p.m. There is no cost to attend.
Food, drinks and retail items will be available for purchase, along with souvenir insulated cups with hot cocoa for S5 at the tent near Main and Cherry. Any funds raised goes to the organization and into the next event. Before Dunard became president of the nonprofit, she said she started out as the photographer with Santa and that time is something she cherishes. She says it is nice to give back to the community and ”to see Santa through the eyes of a child.’ Rachel South, one of the organizers for the event and Troy Historic Business Group Inc treasurer says Santa is for sure a highlight. “My favorite memories are standing in the street with lit candles, singing Silent Night at the end of the event,” South said. ’ Santa coming down on the firetruck is always an amazing experience. To hear the kids yelling for him singing and see the excitement on their faces is priceless.’ The event will feature Santa Claus at die cabin at 5 p.m. and die local 5th grade children’s choir on the courthouse steps at
6 p.m. as well as historic courthouse open house and tours, live music from Matt Zeiss, 360 Photo Booth, inflatable games and sleigh, and live brass band at Troy Furniture. There will also be ornament face painting. For Casey Boyer, Troy Historic Business Inc secretary, wiio has helped organize the event this year and in past years, the event is exciting no matter how many times one attends. ‘The event spreads holiday cheer from ages 1-99,’ she said. “It’s just a magical time of year and it’s so much fun watching evenone come out and support everyone at the event.’
