Troy Buchanan girls open season with lopsided wins
TROY – After advancing to the state quarterfinals a year ago, the Troy Buchanan girls’ basketball team opened their 2025 season with a pair of wins, including one in the first round of their annual Pepsi Invitational.
Playing in front of the home crowd Tuesday night, Troy cruised to a 59-33 win over Fort Zumwalt South.
Troy led 17-12 after the first quarter and extended that lead to double digits, 29-19, by halftime.
Ellie Moore led the Trojans in scoring with 21 points including nine of 12 from the field. She also led the team with 10 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end, and a pair of steals. Mya Robinson filled the stat sheet with 13 points, four steals, three assists, three rebounds and three blocks. In addition to her five points, Alyssa Schulte contributed seven steals as the Trojans racked up 18 in the win.
With the win, Troy advances to a second round matchup against St. Dominic Thursday at 4:30 p.m. In their first game of the season, Troy defeated Warrenton 62-34. Robinson led the team in this one with 20 points, six steals and three blocks. Moore finished with 14 points and eight rebounds while Ashlynn Meyers drilled three from beyond the arc to finish with 9.
