Winfield Returns 3 Starters from an 11-16 Season

After losing their top two scorers to graduation, the Winfield Lady Warriors basketball team will be turning to some new faces to improve upon an 11-16 record last year and first round loss in the district playoffs.
There’s also a new coach in town, Noah Wurtz, to lead the team that will feature three returning starters, including including Cecilia Campbell at center, Olivia Van Cleve and Claire Shoemake at guard.
Campbell is one of the team’s top playmakers on both ends of the court, earning second team all conference honors.
Other starters are expected to include juniors Joeleen Laswell and Kaylee Walcott at forward.
Wurtz said he is looking to build a team through some of the intangibles like hustle and aggressiveness.
“We need to attack each day in the season weather it is a practice or game with good effort and attitude,” he said.
While the competition in the Gateway Athletic Conference North Division is typically difficult, Wurtz said his team is looking forward to the challenge.
