James Gant

Funeral services for James Donald Gant of Troy, were noon Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. Rev. Mike Ryan, pastor of Horseshoe Bend Baptist Church in Lake Ozark, officiated with burial in Whispering Winds Cemetery near Winfield.

Jim, 89, passed away Friday morning, Dec. 13, 2024 at Garden View Care Center in O’Fallon. Born Sept. 6, 1935 in Shannon County, he was the son of Hershal and Marjorie Adams Gant. Jim was raised in the Salem community. He married June Lee Gant Jan. 23, 1954 in Salem. This union was blessed with four sons: James, Jeffery, John and Joseph. Jim was employed for many years as a national account rep for Hobart Refrigeration Corp. in St. Louis, retiring on May 1, 1997. He thoroughly enjoyed his retirement, especially spending time with his family.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Hershal and Marjorie Gant and his beloved wife of 70 years, June Gant, who passed away Feb. 2, 2024.

Survivors include their four sons: James Gant, Jr. and his wife, Sonya, of Foley, Jeffery Gant and his wife, Donna, of Winfield, John Gant and his wife, Missy, of O’Fallon and Joseph Gant and his wife, Christina, of Jonesburg; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Jim also leaves three sisters: Charlene Johnson of Springfield, Joyce Jarvis and her husband, Ken, of Hillsboro and Carolyn Mare and her husband, Ron, of Ocola, Fla.; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Visitation was 11 a.m. until time of the service at noon Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.
