Betty Wilcockson

Betty Wilcockson, 85, of Troy, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024 at Mercy Hospital in Troy. She was born Sept. 5, 1939 in Jonesboro, Ark. to Elvis and Mary (Barber) Beck. Betty grew up with her six siblings on a farm and knew what sharing and thinking of others meant. For a short time, the family relocated to Illinois and the entire family worked in an apple orchard. They later moved back to Walnut Ridge, Ark. on a farm.

Betty met her future husband, Billy Wilcockson, through her brother, Grady. After a year’s courtship, the couple was married Dec. 25, 1955 in Paragould, Ark. Betty and Billy were blessed with four children: Dave, Rick, Bruce and Judy. The family moved to St. Louis when her husband began working for McDonnell-Douglas Corp. During these years, Betty worked for the Gossard Garment Co. in Troy and later worked in nursing at Lincoln County Memorial Hospital. She was a long-time member of the First Assembly of God Church in Troy. Betty was addicted to the QVC network and had over 25 pairs of shoes she never wore. Hard work was no stranger to Betty and she passed this trait along to her children. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed and long remembered by all those who knew and loved her.

Surviving are her devoted husband of almost 69 years, Billy Wilcockson of Troy; her loving children; Dave (Christine) Wilcockson of Troy, Rick Wilcockson of Troy, Bruce (Cheryl) Wilcockson of Louisiana and Judy (Gary) Cannon of Whiteside; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brother, Larry Beck and sister, Vera Fielder, both of Arkansas.

Betty was preceded in death by her four siblings: Marvin Beck, Hildred Beck, Grady Beck and Lila Goodson and her beloved grandson, Josh Wilcockson.
