Funeral services for Betty Jean Colbert Cox of Troy, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025 at Carter- Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Jack Gillespie, pastor of Old Alexandria United Methodist Church near Troy, will officiate with burial in Star Hope cemetery near Elsberry. Serving as pallbearers will be Christopher Colbert-Kelly, Steve Colbert, Frank Colbert, Robbie Hamlett, Chris Kelly, Graham Leslie and Grant Dorrell. Honorary pallbearers will be Max Colbert-Lenk, Waylon Colbert-Pruitt and Jackson Mark Colbert.

Betty, 91, passed away late Sunday night, Jan. 5, 2025 at the Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry. Born Feb. 7, 1933 in Foley, she was the daughter of Frank W. and Georgia Lee Murphy Morris. Betty was a 1950 graduate of Winfield High School. She married Billie Jo Colbert Aug. 31, 1950 in Foley. This union was blessed with three children: Deborah Kay, Mark Dale and Morris Dane. Betty worked as the clerk for the Troy post office and acting postmistress for other post offices in the area for over 40 years. After nearly 20 years of marriage, Billie passed away July 10, 1970.

Betty loved to travel to Panama City Beach, Fla. She was a talented painter, including Easter eggs and ceramics. She loved the Halloween season. Betty married Claude Fred Cox Aug. 20, 1978 in Troy. They celebrated nearly 44 years before Claude passed Jan. 19, 2022. Betty was a member of Foley Baptist Church in Foley and attended Old Alexandria United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Georgia Morris; two brothers: Joseph and Homer Morris; three sisters: Alvina Saucerman, Anna Bell Foster and Martha Richey; her first husband, Billie Colbert; one son, Mark Colbert; and her second husband, Claude Cox.

Survivors include one daughter, Deb Wallace and her husband, Dan, of Foley; one son, Dane Colbert and his wife, Patty, of Troy; six grandchildren: Becca, Christopher, Kierston, Callie, Steve and Frank; and 10 great-grandchildren. Betty also leaves one stepdaughter, Ginia Meier and her husband, Jerry, of Troy; stepson, Randy Cox and his wife, Diane, of Kearney; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025 at Carter- Ricks Funeral Home.
