Super Bowl 2025: Popular doppelgängers hoping the third time is another charm for the KC Chiefs

Kelley Thrasher, a Taylor Swift lookalike and Matt Black, widely-known as Almost Andy Reid are counting on a third straight victory on Feb. 9 when the Kansas City Chiefs play the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.
“I have no problem with saying go birds, but the fight song goes like this — a little differently for me — Fly. eagles fly except for when you play KC,” Black said.
As lifelong Chiefs’ fans, neither Black nor Thrasher ever envisioned a career as a doppelgänger but it is turning out to be thrill of a lifetime.
In 2019, Black’s wife got tickets for a Halloween ball and he needed a costume. After shaving off his beard, he noticed a little resemblance to Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid. So, he put on red and went as the coach to the party. To his surprise, people also noticed the striking similarities and started taking pictures.
That same year, he went to an Andy Reid lookalike contest at training camp and was declared the winner. Eventually, Black started dressing as the coach when attending games and over time acquired a massive following on social media. He has even met and worked with Reid a few times.
“I’ve done State Farm commercials with him as a double, but in the Snickers commercial, I actually got to be in the commercial, the one where he says great googly moogly,” Black said.
“It took an hour to move the camera on field because it was a big boom camera. And Andy had only given them about an hour of time, so they needed me there because when the camera shows the backside, that’s me actually walking off the field in the commercial. So just that was just great. It was also fun watching a coach eat about 20 or 30 Snickers bars.”
For Thrasher, being a Taylor Swift doppelgänger, initially came at the urging of a friend years ago but she declined. Then a musical superstar got her rethinking about it. Last year, she went to Las Vegas with a friend to experience the Super Bowl fun but not the actual sporting event. There, she got the opportunity to go to Bruno Mars’ Pinkie Ring club opening.
“Bruno took care of us all night and performed an amazing live set,” she said.
According to Thrasher, Mars originally thought she was Swift but once she confirmed she wasn’t, “he told me I needed to monetize that.”
Requests have since poured in for corporate events, fundraisers, birthday parties, and more. Her first event was with former Chiefs wide receiver Dante Hall.
Just like Swift, she is a Travis Kelce fan. In fact, number 87 is her favorite player.
“He (Kelce) brings a fun, charismatic spark to the team. My husband and I have both met him a few different times and have great stories about how fun, down-to-earth, and kind he is. Not to mention hilarious,” Thrasher said.
At each of her events, there are inevitably Swifties, the name of the singer’s fan base, who interact with her and also give her friendship bracelets, of which Thrasher says she has many.
This year, she will experience her first-ever Super Bowl, and she can barely contain her excitement.
“I haven’t been able to sleep well since finding out.”
Of course, she is predicting a Chiefs win, with a final score of 33-24. Thrasher says the friendship bracelets bring her good karma and might so for the Chiefs as well.
Unlike Black, she has never met her lookalike but she is always open for the opportunity.
Both Thrasher and Black consider their good fortune as doppelgängers a blessing in disguise and a ton of fun, on top of being huge Chiefs fans. And both will be rooting big for the team on game day. Like Thrasher, Black will be in the Big Easy during Super Bowl weekend but instead of being at the game, he will doing multiple media events.
“Every day I look myself in the mirror and have to pinch myself to have this similarity to one of the greatest coaches in the history of sports is absolutely amazing. Plus, he’s such a good person. I’m very honored that I have an opportunity to do that,” Black said.
