Troy Buchanan Makes History with First District Title

WENTZVILLE – The Troy Buchanan girls’ wrestling team made history Saturday in Wentzville, winning the first district title in the school’s history.

Led by four district champions, eight Trojans qualified for the state tournament Feb. 28-March 1 in Columbia.

With the eight top-four finishes, Troy scored 198.5 points, beating the 2024 state champion and two-time district champ Howell Central (179.5). Fort Zumwalt South (127.5), Francis Howell (113) and North Point (101.5) rounded out the top five.

Defending state champion Zoey Haney, Troy’s lone state qualifier as a freshman four years ago, won her fourth consecutive title in the 100-pound weight class as dominantly as possible. After a first-round bye, Haney rattled off three consecutive pins in the first period, including one at the 1:21 mark over Zumwalt North’s Kate Cochran in the title bout.

With that win, Haney runs her 2024-25 mark to 47-2.

Three teammates also claimed district championships, including freshman Addilyn Amos (37-9) at 110 and sophomore Haddley Dale (39-9) at 115, both of whom won with first round pins in the title matches.

Sophomore Jeralyn Spear won the last division of the day, 235, with a second round pin over Jefferson City senior Kyla Finney. She heads to state with a 36-11 mark.

All four Trojans not only won district championships, but also won all their matches by pin.

Two other Trojans, including Zoe’s twin Madison (105 pounds) and sophomore Molly Marischen (155) made the title match but settled for second.

Other state qualifiers for the Trojans include senior Brooke Dollard (third place, 140) and junior Hayden Scorfina (fourth, 135).

The state tournament starts Feb. 26-27 with the Class 1 girls while the Class 2 girls tournament is scheduled for Feb. 28-March at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
