LINCOLN COUNTY – A Lincoln County mother woke up to a terrifying sight Wednesday night when she found a man she didn’t know in her home.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department arrested Colin Douglas, 30, on misdemeanor charges of burglary and trespassing after he was found in the Lincoln County residence about 11:30 p.m.
According to court records, a woman who lives in the home woke up to her dog loudly barking. When she walked into the hallway, she saw a man she didn’t recognize standing between her bedroom and her children’s bedroom.
After being told to leave, the man allegedly refused and when she attempted to escort him out of the house, he blocked the front door and locked it.
At that time, the woman retreated to her children’s bedroom, locked the door and called 911. As she called, she reported she could hear Douglas walking around the inside of her home.
When deputies arrived, they approached the front door and Douglas opened it. As he matched the description provided by emergency dispatchers, officers entered the home and immediately placed him in handcuffs.
Douglas, who has no other criminal convictions on record in Missouri, appeared before Associate Judge Michael Jacobs Thursday afternoon about 12 hours after his arrest. Jacobs set his bond at $10,000 cash-only and scheduled a counsel status hearing for Thursday, Sept. 25 at 9:30 a.m.
